Jefferson Community Foundation

The Sy Kahn Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, named for a Key City Public Theatre (KCPT) participant with a lifetime history as a theater educator, was established to ensure that scholarships are maintained as a strong component of KCPT’s education programs. Artistic Director Denise Winter was compelled to establish this endowment in the spring of 2008 to honor Sy Kahn for his work in our community, his deep commitment to education and love of theater. Jefferson County actress and graduate of Jefferson Community School Torrey Berkson, was the first recipient of the Sy Kahn Memorial Scholarship Award for Excellence in Theatre. The $1,000 award was presented on May 14, 2008 by his widow, Janet Baker Kahn. This award was funded by a special gift to highlight the establishment of the endowed fund.
