Remembering Phil Johnson

It is with deep appreciation and love for the lasting contributions that Phil Johnson made in our community that we remember him today.  At 72, former Jefferson County commission chairman Phil Johnson passed away on Jan 8, 2019, A longtime champion of the environment, Mr. Johnson was a key figure in fighting net pens in the county and had a vision for a walkable, bikeable Port Hadlock community with a restored stream running through it.

In 2017, the Jefferson County Democrats established the  Phil Johnson Environmental Scholarship Fund to honor his efforts to preserve the health and integrity of our local lands and waters. The Fund supports annual scholarship awards to Jefferson County students who are graduating high school or are already in college who major or minor in environmental sciences, ecology, or an allied field of study such as marine sciences or biology.  You can honor Mr. Johnson’s legacy by making a donation here or mailing a check to Phil John Fund c/o Jefferson Community Foundation 201B W. Patison Street, Port Hadlock, WA 98339.
