Why Support JCF
Reasons to Support Your Local Community Foundation
Community Foundations support and complement the work of other charities. Most charities depend upon regular income from annual campaigns to fund operations. Community Foundations represent the community savings account that can provide unusual, one-time, or venture capital for the entire nonprofit sector. They are not tied to a specific program but rather serve the entire community.
Community Foundations reflect the wishes, needs, and convictions of the entire community
Community Foundations serve a broad range of charitable interests and anyone is welcome to establish a Fund with his or her particular interest in mind. Over time, as Community Foundations grow, these collections of Community Funds reflect the wide variety of interests and needs of donors and the entire community.
Community Foundations are flexible in order to meet donor intent
We can accept nearly any kind of gift—from cash and real estate to stock and other appreciated assets. An individual, family, business or organization can create a philanthropic Fund for any charitable purpose. The Community Foundation can tell the story of a person’s legacy or carefully protect a donor’s identity, whatever the donor desires.
Community Foundations create permanent Endowment Funds so that community needs can be met now and for future generations
Community Foundations spend only the interest income from Endowment Funds each year. The principal amount remains, in perpetuity, as the community’s asset. Endowing a Fund is a fitting way to memorialize or honor a loved one and create a permanent legacy that will be remembered for generations.
Community Foundations have a landscape knowledge of community needs and the nonprofits working to address them.
The Community Foundation staff spends significant time out in the field so we can offer donors unique insights into community needs and organizations.
